Smart Elevator

Enables absolute position monitoring, speed feedback, overspeed braking, and car-bottom collision protection to improve elevator aesthetics and intelligent control.

Process Overview

The elevator shaft positioning system is the core of elevator control. It acquires the car position in real time and provides data for floor leveling, speed regulation, and safety protection.
Mainstream solutions fall into two categories:
Relative position measurement: the system estimates car position by using floor-leveling switches and motor encoders, accumulating the number of motor rotations.
Absolute position measurement with physical media: magnetic tape and car-mounted sensors are used to directly read scale marks on the magnetic strip and obtain the car position.

Limitations of Existing Solutions

Both approaches have clear limitations:
Relative positioning, or incremental positioning, loses the position after power failure. After restart, the system must spend time searching for the terminal floor, so recovery is slow.
Absolute positioning with magnetic tape retains position after power loss, but magnetic tape must be installed along the full shaft. It occupies space, affects aesthetics, complicates installation, and introduces friction noise and wear.
Traditional approaches struggle to balance efficiency and aesthetics. The market needs a new system with complete position information and hidden installation, so functionality can truly serve spatial design.

GATPOR Solution

GATPOR’s laser-sensor-based elevator absolute position monitoring system mounts the laser sensor on one side of the car or at the top of the shaft. By emitting laser beams, it feeds back the car’s absolute position and speed in real time without relying on physical media.

Cleaner appearance
Media-free positioning eliminates magnetic tape running through the shaft. The sensor is compact, only 72 x 52 x 26 mm, and can be installed discreetly.

Information redundancy
Position information is retained after power loss.

Flexible integration
It can work with electronic safety gears and controllers to enable overspeed braking.

Customer Value

价值亮点

GATPOR laser distance sensors have already been supplied in batches to leading domestic elevator manufacturers for home elevator positioning systems. In transparent-shaft home elevators, the media-free, wear-free, and hidden-installation advantages have been widely recognized by the market. Customer feedback shows that the laser solution makes elevator operation more stable, stopping more accurate, and maintenance lower, while allowing transparent shafts to achieve the intended open and elegant design that magnetic-tape installation previously limited.
